Welcome to the Puerto Morelos National Reef Park,
The second largest reef in the world.

The Puerto Morelos Coral Reef is located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. It is one of the most important and best-preserved coral reefs in the Caribbean region, stretching from the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico to Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Characteristics of our national park in Puerto Morelos:
It is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world, and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Marine biodiversity: Species of corals, tropical fish, sea turtles, manta rays, sharks, and many other forms of marine life.

Diversity of habitats: Fringing reefs, where corals grow parallel to the coast; patch reefs, which are isolated coral areas; and sponge reefs, where marine sponges are the protagonists. These habitats provide shelter and food to a wide variety of marine species.

Coral formations and structures: There is a variety of coral formations and structures, including coral pillars and columns, underwater caves and canyons. Exploring these offers unique experiences for our visitors and for those of us who live in this corner of the universe.

An activity for the whole family, swimmers and non-swimmers alike are suitable for this activity, always accompanied by certified guides and legally established companies within the marine park.

We invite you to be part of the care of our natural resources by not using sunscreens or chemicals during snorkeling. Ask your dive center or water activities center for alternatives, together we can contribute much more to the care and preservation of this valuable marine ecosystem.
